Help in Thinking Accurately Regarding the Marriage Amendment

We do not want to become known as a political entity (more importantly we must not be a political entity).  We do not want to be identified by what we are against more than what we are for (pardon the poor grammar).  Nonetheless, we must understand that standing for the Gospel requires that we stand unequivocally against sin.  After all, the Gospel is for sinners WHO REPENT OF THEIR SIN.  We cannot accurately proclaim the Gospel without compassionately and yet pointedly speaking to humanity about their sin.

Is homosexuality sin?

1 Corinthians 6:9-10  9 ¶ Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites,  10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.

Homosexuality has become the one sin that we are not allowed to mention in public.  Which means that we must mention it in public.  Homosexuals are in danger of the wrath of God (as are fornicators or adulterers or idolaters or thieves, etc).  But who will love them enough to risk the scorn of actually speaking to them?  Who will challenge them to confront the truth that they must face in order to repent and embrace the forgiveness offered them freely in the Gospel?  That is part of our calling, isn’t it?

The article copied below is excellently written and should inform our thinking, especially in light of Tuesday’s referendum on the Marriage Amendment.  This vote is for us a call to declare our agreement with the rule of God over human culture in general and human sexuality in particular.

(PS: It is important to say that the fornicating conservative politicians who are fighting against the homosexual lobby are in no less danger of the wrath of God than those whose sins they are striving to over-throw. )
