There are implications in not speaking against evil!
Psalm 50:16-19
16 But to the wicked God says: “What right have you to declare My statutes, Or take My covenant in your mouth,
17 Seeing you hate instruction And cast My words behind you?
18 When you saw a thief, you consented with him, And have been a partaker with adulterers.
19 You give your mouth to evil, And your tongue frames deceit.Romans 1:32
who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.
I have heard of Christians, people I love, who have opposed the marriage amendment. Hopefully, that is simply the result of imprecise thinking and is not the reflection of serious contemplation. (Here I am willing to grant the benefit of this doubt, but am convinced that I must speak as if this thinking is the fruit of serious contemplation.) For God’s children this amendment was a referendum on the order which God constructed in His creation and which He ratified by moral law. This is not about giving government undue authority over our lives. This is rather about our system of government providing us with the opportunity to express our minds and wills as citizens. This is how democracy is supposed to work, but almost never does. This was one of the few times in recent memory when I was able to cast a vote with certain moral clarity!
It is distressing that the sophistry of darkness has been able to confuse those who sit in the light. Whenever the servants of the Light of the world are provided the opportunity to speak regarding the unfruitful works of darkness there should be no ambiguity in their speech. In all things wherein God has spoken, His Word and will must be counted as true and every man who speaks to the contrary must be counted a liar.
How can the followers of Christ be confused about the proper definition of marriage? Did not Christ Himself say:
Matthew 19:4-6
4 And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ 5 “and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? 6 “So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”
It is distressing enough that the definition of marriage should be questioned to the extent that a vote would be required. That constitutes a remarkable decline in public moral consciousness. However, for God’s people somehow to be befuddled about how to answer the question when given the opportunity is much more distressing.
It is as simple as if the Lord be God, follow Him. It is as simple as:
Mark 8:38 – 9:1 “For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”
Dear Brethren, you cannot serve God and the world. The vote did not ask if homosexuals should be burned at the stake or denied their freedom. No punishment is being proposed. However, the proposal is that they be denied the license to count their immorality as morality. How can there be ambiguity as to how the followers of Christ should vote and speak?
Be careful, Beloved, lest you give your approval to those who practice the evil that God detests! There are very serious implications to taking the side of evil against the express will of God.
Here are some thought provoking words from John Piper. If you read them, read them carefully and thoughtfully please.
