God the Almighty
Who is God and what is He like?
These are two of the most important questions we could ever ask. Many people say they know God. When asked to describe who God is, however, they often give conflicting answers.
God has revealed a lot to us about Himself in the Bible. Here are a few essential truths we need to know about God.
There is only one God. [6] He alone is absolutely eternal. [7] He created the universe and everything in it. [8] He alone rules the universe and "calls all the shots". [9] He is pure spirit. [10] As spirit, God is present everywhere, and He always sees us. [11]
God is totally pure and there is no evil in Him. [12] He is just and is the standard of justice and righteousness. [13] God is so pure, unique and perfect that mighty angels who live in His presence cry out day and night, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty, who was and who is and who is to come." [14]
God is also good. He is good to us even though we don't deserve it. [15] God is love and all love is from God. [16] He is compassionate and patient. [17] God is truly the most beautiful and desirable being in the universe.
While there is only one true God, He has always existed as three Persons: God is the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. [18] He is a "Trinity". [19] We cannot expect fully to comprehend this mystery — how the one God exists simultaneously as three Persons — but we must believe it because the Bible teaches it. [20]
Do you desire to know this God? You should. To know Him and to love Him is eternal life. He alone can give you true happiness and purpose in life.
At the same time, are you afraid of God? You should be. God relates to us on His own terms and not on ours; and in view of His majestic purity, we should tremble because of who we are. There's something wrong with all of us.

You have not lied to men, but to God.
[19] Christians do not believe that God is both one Person and three Persons simultaneously for this would be a contradiction. Rather, the Bible teaches that God is one essence or being manifest as three Persons simultaneously. This is not a contradiction.
[20] Isaiah 55:8-9 - For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways," declares the LORD. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts.
