True Religion is Revealed Religion
2 Tim. 3:16 - All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
If your only child was on the brink of death due to a rare disease and you had just enough time to seek help from one of two people, a person who had heard much folklore about curing illness and an experienced physician who had himself conducted enormous research and had studied under the foremost authorities pertaining to your child's sickness, which would you choose? The answer is a "no call." In such a case, we would all want the person with the best, the most objectively proven knowledge.
Every one of us do in fact face a very similar predicament with respect to our own souls. We are each appointed to die, due to our sin, and after that to stand before God in order to be consigned to our everlasting dwelling place. This life, with all of its uncertainties, is the only opportunity provided for us to prepare for eternity. Time is of the essence for death is often unexpected. Truth is also of the essence for a mistake will have horrendous, irreversible consequences. Who do we consult for direction in making preparation? Do we resort to people who have very strong opinions and conjectures on the subject? Do we entrust ourselves to long and standing traditions and to the institutions which uphold those traditions? Or do we stake our lives upon what God Himself has said - the same God who will be our Judge?
Again, this is a "no call." If the living God has spoken, what He has said is the only thing that matters!
The wonderful truth is that God has indeed spoken infallibly in the Holy Scriptures. The way to eternal life has been revealed plainly in the Bible. Why then are so many folk either uninterested in what God has said or content to rest on unproven human opinions instead of what God has said? Is it because sin does not exist? Every human conscience testifies to the contrary. Is it because death does not exist? Every newspaper testifies to the contrary. Is it because God does not exist? The whole creation, including our own hearts testify to the contrary. So, why are people so cavalier about making certain they are prepared for death and judgment? The answer has to do with the power of sin over our personalities. Intuitively we know that in order to be right with God we must be changed, sin must be renounced, and a new way of living must be embraced. The love of sin causes us to want to believe that the way of salvation is what many say: do the best you can; show kindness to the poor; be baptized and join a church. Deep down we know there must be more to it but the fear of having to give up sin keeps us from making serious inquiry of the Bible.
Dear Friends, sin lies in order to hold us in its dominion. What God has given to save us from our sins and from death and from judgment is infinitely more enjoyable to our souls than sin could ever be. It is the marvelous person Jesus Christ. Do not delay any longer. Make a prayerful inquiry of the Scriptures concerning Jesus Christ: who He is; what He has accomplished; what He promises; what it means to trust Him and follow Him. What a tragedy it would be to perish when the way of life is so close and plain and wonderful!
