Protecting Yourself Online

Hacking isn't done just by teenagers in their bedrooms. It has become a major tool of international criminal organizations, easily infiltrating home computers on the Internet every minute of every day. Your bank account, your privacy, and your identity are at risk from these criminals, and you must take action to protect yourself. This seminar will demonstrate simple, inexpensive techniques you can use to keep you and your computer safe online.

About the seminar

The seminar is FREE and will be held at Grace Reformed Baptist Church on Thursday, April 5, 2007 at 7:00pm.

A nursery will be provided for children age 3 and below. Directions to our church are available.

Topics include:

  • How criminals try to attack and infiltrate your computer
  • How criminals try to trick you into making mistakes
  • Simple things you can do to protect your computer from worms, viruses, spyware, and phishing
  • Keeping your finances secure while banking online
  • How to be safe while using wireless networks
  • Tips for safe Internet use while traveling

After the seminar, a number of computer experts will be available to answer your PC and Internet questions.

About the speaker

Martin Nystrom Martin Nystrom is a Security Architect with Cisco Systems and brings 5 years of experience as a network security specialist. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), holds a B.A. in Management from Iowa State University, and a Masters of Engineering from NC State University. As part of Cisco's Computer Security Incident Response Team, he spends his days defending against security threats, and speaks regularly to customers, universities, and international conferences on Internet security.
